Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)

Because diversity enriches and unites us!

More than 16,000 employees across 85 locations in over 20 countries shape our company - with their drive, their entrepreneurial spirit and their collaborative way of work. Each individual is important to us, and we want to create a working environment where we respect each other and where we all feel accepted and valued. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) are the basis for our entrepreneurial success, because they bring innovative strength, competitiveness and growth.

Diversity

Means respecting and valuing our colleagues in every aspect.

Equity

Means that we take the individual needs of our colleagues into account when designing processes and give everyone the opportunity to make their full contribution.

Inclusion

Means creating a sense of belonging and having the opportunity to be fully oneself at work.

Everyone is different, bringing their own different experiences, skills and perspectives. It is exactly this diversity that makes us successful! Our immediate priorities for DEI are:

1. Professionalization of our DEI structures
In addition to an overarching group level Corporate Responsibility Council, we have an international DEI Council in which each country is represented. In order to promote the topics nationally and locally, there are dedicated contact persons and working groups in the countries.

2. Raising awareness and competences for DEI
In addition to communication campaigns and dedicated actions on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), we offer our employees a platform with a variety of online training courses where they can learn more. In addition, there are also specially developed course collections on the topics of unconscious bias, anti-racism, religious discrimination and inclusion.

3. Becoming a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organization
We also aim to improve every day in terms of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI). To do so, we are revising and adapting our processes and structures with DEI in mind. In order to become even more diverse, equitable and inclusive, we are working to embed the topic of DEI throughout the entire development of our employees. For example, as part of the recruiting process, all recruiters and managers receive targeted training in which they are sensitized to the issue of unconscious bias, among other things, in order to guarantee a recruiting process that is as free of prejudice and fair as possible. In addition, we consistently focus on equality, inclusion, optimal workplace design and the advancement of our employees by implementing the Bertelsmann Inclusion Action Plan 2019 - 2024. The goal of this plan is to ensure that people with disabilities can work more barrier-free and thus enrich the company even more with their knowledge and creativity.

As part of Bertelsmann, we also stand behind the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) policy and support the principles of the Diversity Charter. Our employees are also offered a wide range of opportunities and initiatives, such as our Group-wide be.queer network for our LGBTQIA+ employees.
