Environmental Sustainability at Arvato
As a global logistics provider, we recognize our responsibility to address environmental topics that are relevant to our own operations and services. Our activities focus on reducing environmental impact where we have direct operational influence, while working together with our clients to achieve improvements across the supply chain.
Environmental sustainability at Arvato is addressed through defined focus areas and specific measures such as energy use, waste reduction and decarbonization efforts at our sites and resource efficiency efforts in logistics processes. Information on objectives, initiatives and progress is based on documented data and internal methodologies.
Our environmental sustainability goals
Electricity sourcing for distribution centers
For Arvato-operated distribution centers with an annual electricity consumption of more than 100 MWh, electricity is sourced from renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydro) where electricity is not generated onsite via photovoltaic systems. Sites for which no direct renewable electricity procurement options are available, Guarantees of Origin from the European Energy Certificate System (EECS) or from national systems (e.g., renewable electricity certificates) are procured.
Greenhouse gas emission reduction target (Scope 1 and Scope 2)
Arvato has defined an internal target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from Scope 1 and Scope 2 (GHG Protocol Corporate Standard) operations by 50% by 2030 compared to a 2018 baseline. Progress against this target is monitored internally and reflected in Arvato’s sustainability reporting.
Approach to residual greenhouse gas emissions
For individual clients and specific sites, Arvato already supports voluntary climate protection measures addressing residual greenhouse gas emissions, where explicitly requested by clients.
Looking ahead, Arvato plans to expand the consideration of residual greenhouse gas emissions beyond individual client requests from 2030 onwards. Any such activities are intended as a complement to emission reduction efforts.

At Arvato, we focus on how energy is sourced and generated, how efficiently it is used across our sites, how buildings are operated in line with applicable standards, and how environmental data and measures are reported.
Arvato Climate Report
Arvato published Climate and ESG reports on a voluntary basis to provide additional transparency on environmental topics at entity level:
Since 2024, Arvato has transitioned from a standalone Climate report to a comprehensive ESG report.
Information on regulatory reporting in accordance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) is provided at Group level in the Bertelsmann sustainability report.
