We expand our Healthcare Logistics Campus in Harsewinkel

We are continuing to invest in our healthcare business and expand the capacity at our Harsewinkel site. With an official groundbreaking ceremony, the next phase of the site expansion has begun and is scheduled for completion by mid-2026. The aim is to support the growth of existing clients, onboard newly acquired clients, and further strengthen Harsewinkel's leading role in logistics for pharmaceutical and medical technology products.
The campus in Harsewinkel, Germany, already comprises around 60,000 square meters of logistics and office space, spread across three modern halls. More than 1,000 employees ensure a smooth and integrated supply chain across Europe.
Investment in Additional Capacity and Modern Infrastructure
Arvato is investing a mid-double-digit million euro amount in the expansion. Three new modules equipped with the latest technology are planned. In addition to a new refrigerated warehouse with a height of 18 meters (2–8 °C), additional ambient storage areas (15–25 °C) will be created, providing 22,000 additional pallet spaces. In total, the expansion will increase the site’s logistics area by approximately 20,000 square meters.
All new buildings will be equipped with photovoltaic systems with a total output of around 700 kWp, contributing to Arvato’s goal of becoming climate neutral by 2030. The expansion will also create up to 70 new jobs.
A Response to Continued Growth
“Harsewinkel is a key site for us in the European healthcare business,” explains Thorsten Winkelmann, President Healthcare at Arvato. “Since 2019, our revenue here has grown by an average of 15 percent per year. The existing storage areas for ambient and chilled goods are now around 80 percent utilized – with this expansion, we are deliberately creating capacity for further growth.”
The new buildings will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a fully automated pallet shuttle system. This will integrate seamlessly into the existing setup, which already features a wide range of automated picking technologies such as an AutoStore system, bin shuttle, rack-to-person system, and goods-to-person workstations including pick-by-light – all of which will also be expanded. Numerous autonomous forklifts and automated container transport systems are already in use.
“Our site in Harsewinkel offers optimal logistics conditions: within Germany, we enable next-day delivery; across Europe, we deliver within 24 to 48 hours, and globally within two to four days,” says Paul Engel, Site Manager at Arvato in Harsewinkel. “With this expansion, we are ensuring that we can continue to implement sophisticated, often global distribution models – especially for sensitive healthcare products – at the highest level.”
