Arvato Officially Opens New Logistics Campus in Echt to Support Clients’ European Growth

Topics: Sustainable Supply Chains Company Automated Warehouses

Companies expanding across Europe need logistics operations that can accommodate growing and changing volumes, connect new markets and adapt to evolving business requirements without compromising reliable performance. Arvato has officially opened its 90,000-square-meter logistics campus in Echt, marking a major expansion of its logistics footprint in the Netherlands.

The site supports the European supply chains of clients in Sports & Lifestyle and Consumer Electronics. Its scale and flexible design allow Arvato to tailor logistics processes to different industry requirements. These range from accommodating seasonal peaks and shifting product portfolios in Sports & Lifestyle to secure handling, reliable distribution and high quality standards in Consumer Electronics.

“Clients need supply chains that can grow and adapt with their business,” says Martijn Nielen, Managing Director of Arvato in the Netherlands. “Echt is more than additional warehouse capacity for Arvato. It gives our clients the capacity, connectivity and operational flexibility to respond to changing volumes, enter new markets and expand their European activities with confidence from a strategically located campus in the heart of the European market.”

Technology designed around changing volumes

Automation is at the heart of the new campus. An AutoStore system provides high-density storage and goods-to-person picking, while high-speed shuttle systems support automated storage and retrieval for high-volume processes. Automated conveyor and sorting systems help move goods efficiently throughout the facility. Arvato’s Warehouse Management System and Warehouse Control System provide visibility and control across the operation. Real-time data allows teams to monitor and continuously optimize workflows, productivity, and resource utilization.

“Clients don’t all have the same logistics requirements, and those requirements can change quickly,” says Nielen. “The flexibility we have built into Echt allows us to adapt our operations to different volumes and processes while maintaining the reliability our clients expect.”

The campus is located close to the German and Belgian borders, providing direct access to markets in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium as well as wider European transport networks. Its proximity to major roads, inland waterways, and ports supports efficient cross-border distribution.

Sustainability built into the site

The Echt campus combines scalable logistics capacity with a comprehensive sustainability strategy and has achieved BREEAM Excellent certification. The facility has been designed to minimize its environmental footprint while supporting long-term operational resilience. A large photovoltaic system is designed to generate around 90 percent of the site’s annual energy demand, complemented by an intelligent energy management system and battery storage to optimize energy consumption and reduce the impact on the public power grid.

Sustainability extends beyond energy efficiency. The campus incorporates native trees, hedges and other biodiversity-enhancing vegetation, alongside a green yard designed to support local wildlife, improve water retention, and strengthen climate resilience. Water management measures have been integrated throughout the site to reduce environmental impact and promote the responsible use of natural resources.

Expanding Arvato’s presence in the Netherlands

Around 350 employees work at the Echt campus. It is Arvato’s second fully owned property in the Netherlands, alongside its existing site in Gennep. With the addition of Echt, Arvato’s Dutch network now spans more than 500,000 square meters of warehouse space. The expansion strengthens the company’s ability to provide scalable, technology-driven supply chain solutions to national and international clients and further expands its capacity within the European market.
